Why Study AI Leadership?


Throughout this course, participants reflect on the leaders they are, the leaders they could be, the tools they can use to create an organization of learning and innovation and the resources available to plan for the future.

Connecting Leadership and Artificial Intelligence (AI), managers, directors and CEOs will learn how AI technology can amplify current leadership practices to improve individual, team and organizational leadership capabilities.

In this six-week online course, leaders will gain new leadership capabilities to improve the ability of their teams to innovate and succeed, and to help their organizations act with agility and purpose.

Module O: Orientation

An overview of the programme, the next-generation AI platform used to deliver it and the community of fellow innovators and leaders.

Module 1: AI + Leadership

To develop a foundation, gain a comprehensive understanding of:

 

  • Core concepts of digital disruption
  • Models and technologies that are leading the disruption
  • Key differences between, and impacts of, platforms, AI and blockchain technology

Module 2: Extended Intelligence

Explore the mechanisms and competitive advantages of the platform model including:

 

  • The variety of industries that have been, and currently are being, disrupted by platforms (including music, ridesharing, finance, hospitality and healthcare)
  • What factors enabled the industry to be disrupted by platforms
  • How to develop the foresight to identify the industries that are ready for platform disruption

Module 3: Developing a New Leadership Mindset for Data

Learn what makes applications of AI and blockchain technology truly disruptive:

 

  • Examine a variety of examples of disruptive applications of these technologies
  • Explore the conditions that enabled/will enable them to become disruptive
  • View different disruptive applications of these technologies
  • Examine what makes an industry ready for transformation from either AI or blockchain technology

Module 4: Developing Your Leadership Signature

Look at how incumbents can respond to digital disruption by using scenario planning to determine where they should focus their digital transformation efforts:

 

  • Evaluate what needs to be done in order to embrace AI or blockchain technology in a product's strategy and transition a product to a platform model
  • Conduct a scenario planning exercise and use experiential learning to develop a strategy for how to respond to the disruption(s)

Module 5: AI + Governance

Explore how to change the identity of a business to embrace digital transformation, including:

 

  • How to approach process changes as a result of new technologies
  • Which key strategies prepare people for change

Module 6: AI + the Future of Work

Embrace the future of digital disruption:

 

  • Examine emerging regulation
  • Understand the impact of regulation on technology and its disruptive power
  • Create a strategic plan for preparing a specific business for digital disruption

Prof. Rosalind Picard, Sc.D., is an MIT professor, inventor, author, and entrepreneur. Her team’s inventions have been twice named to "top ten" lists, including the New York Times Magazine's Best Ideas of 2006 for their Social Cue Reader, used in autism, and 2011's Popular Science Top Ten Inventions for a Mirror that Monitors Vital Signs. Her book Affective Computing helped launch the field by that name, giving computers (including software agents, robots, and interactive games) the skills of emotional intelligence. She is one of the top two most-cited researchers in Digital Health and directs research at the MIT Media Lab on Affective Computing, especially focused on creating solutions to help people who are not flourishing or at risk of not flourishing. She teaches classes such as Affective Computing and Ethics, and AI for Good Mental Health. Picard’s inventions have led to AI-based advances in psychiatry and neurology, including the first smart watch (commercialized by Empatica, sold as “Embrace”) cleared by FDA for monitoring and alerting to seizures, and wearable devices used by thousands of researchers globally for collecting medical data used in clinical trials and patient-focused research. Picard has co-founded two successful businesses Affectiva and Empatica. Empatica recently created a new AI wearable, in use in studies by the US Health and Human Services, for warning of a likely viral respiratory infection She has a TEDx talk viewed by nearly two million people, and has received a variety of recognitions including one of the highest honors for an engineer, election to the National Academy.
